The Christmas 2026 RC gift guide: 17 picks from stocking stuffer to splurge

Tom Bennett's picks in four price bands, chosen for the things that matter once a truck gets driven hard: parts you can replace, batteries that match, and a box that runs on Christmas morning.

How we pick · Updated · We earn a commission when you buy through our Amazon links.

Picked by Tom Bennett, our RC cars, repairs and backyard testing contributor, with one question behind every choice: what happens after the wrapping paper, when the truck hits the curb, the battery runs flat and something bends. For most kids, the gift is the HAIBOXING 18859, a real 4WD truck with spare parts on sale and two batteries plus a charger in the box. Teens and adults who want speed should get the Arrma Mojave GROM, because Arrma parts are easy to find when it breaks. Already own a truck? A second battery or a proper charger beats another car.

Price bands checked October 4, 2026. Amazon prices move, especially around Black Friday, so check the current price on Amazon.

Why these make smart gifts this year

Picked for after the crashTom weighs what a spec sheet skips: whether parts are sold, whether the drivetrain has metal where cheap trucks crack, and whether a beginner can keep it running.
Batteries sortedWe read each listing's box contents and say plainly whether a battery and charger are included. That one detail decides whether the gift runs at 7 a.m. or on December 27.
Room to growThe hobby-grade picks have replaceable parts and a 2S-to-3S path, so the gift can get faster later without a new car.
A gift for the owner tooHobbyists burn through batteries. A pack with the right plug, or a charger that does two at once, gets used every weekend.

How we picked

Tom Bennett chose these the way an RC mechanic shops for family: repairability and parts support first, then whether the battery and charger situation makes sense, then speed that suits the driver's age. Toy cars that can't be fixed only made the list for young kids, where simple and tough beats fast. Popularity came last, as a check: the board above shows what gift buyers are ordering this month, and a big owner base means more help when something goes wrong. Every spec on this page comes from the product listing, read on October 4, 2026. It's a spec review: we didn't run each of these trucks, and where a listing leaves something out, we say so. How we research.

Toy-grade or hobby-grade matters more than price. Toy-grade cars are cheap and tough, and when one breaks it's usually finished. Hobby-grade trucks have proportional throttle and steering, parts you can replace, and much more speed. Our RTR vs kit guide covers the next step for anyone hooked.

Small gifts an RC owner will actually use, plus two simple toy cars that young kids can't easily break.

Best stocking stuffer

Zeee LiPo Safe Bag

Cheap and small, and it's the gift a parent of an RC kid will thank you for. Zeee lines the bag with fireproof fabric and lists heat insulation up to 1000°F; it's made to hold LiPo packs while they charge and while they're stored, and it's big enough for about 25 small 3S packs. With 10,839 ratings and 2K+ sold last month, it's the most popular RC accessory we found.

A bag lowers the risk of a LiPo fire spreading. It doesn't replace an adult nearby while the pack charges.

  • Size8.46 x 6.5 x 5.71 in
  • Layersfireproof fabric, flame-retardant interlayer, PVC outer
  • Holdsabout 25 3S 2200mAh packs
  • Usecharging, transport, storage

Why it stands out

  • Fits in a stocking
  • Useful for any LiPo-powered car, from an SCX24 to a Kraton

Think twice if

  • The person only runs NiMH or USB-charged toy cars

HobbyPark 4-Piece Hex Driver Set

Every hobby-grade truck is held together with hex screws, and the L-shaped keys that come in the box strip them. These four drivers cover the common metric sizes, and the size is engraved on each handle so nobody hunts for the 2.5. HobbyPark's listing names Arrma, Axial, Redcat and several Traxxas models.

  • Sizes1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0 mm
  • Tipsheavy-duty steel
  • Handlesaluminum, size engraved

Why it stands out

  • Small enough for a stocking, used at every repair
  • 1,390 ratings, 300+ bought last month

Think twice if

  • Their truck is an older model with inch-size (SAE) hardware; check the manual first

Best spare battery

Zeee 2S 5200mAh LiPo (2-pack)

Two hard-case 2S packs for the price of one brand-name battery, and 800+ people bought them last month. For someone with a 1/10 basher this doubles or triples drive time per session. The catch is the plug: these come with a T connector (often called Deans), so a Traxxas truck with the iD plug needs an adapter. Measure the battery tray against 138 x 47 x 25 mm too. Our connector guide shows how to tell which plug a truck uses.

Zeee's own listing says to charge with a LiPo balance charger only and never leave a pack charging unattended. Good rules for any LiPo.

  • Capacity5200mAh
  • Discharge50C
  • PlugT connector
  • Size138 x 47 x 25 mm
  • Casehard case
  • Count2 packs

Why it stands out

  • Two packs in one gift
  • Hard case for bashing
  • 4,598 ratings

Think twice if

  • You don't know which plug or battery size their truck takes
  • They don't own a LiPo balance charger yet

Most popular kids' car

QUNREDA Stunt Car

The best-selling RC gift on Amazon right now by a wide margin: 7K+ bought in the past month and #52 across all of Toys & Games. It drives on both sides and flips on command, and the two-button controller is simple enough for a 6-year-old on Christmas morning. Two swappable battery modules charge over USB-C, so there's always a second one ready when the first runs out.

It's a toy, and a good one. No proportional throttle, no spare parts, and it won't jump a curb ramp the way a hobby truck does.

  • Ages6+
  • Batteries2 x 500mAh 3.7V modules, USB-C charging
  • Run timeup to 25 min per battery (listing)
  • Radio2.4GHz
  • Stunts9, including 360° flips

Why it stands out

  • Two batteries and the USB-C cable included
  • Drives upside down, so a crash doesn't end the fun
  • 6,920 ratings

Think twice if

  • The kid is 10 or older and wants speed; start at the HAIBOXING instead

Monster Jam Grave Digger RC (1:24)

For the preschool Monster Jam fan, nothing on this list will get a bigger reaction. It's the official Grave Digger in a small 1:24 size from Spin Master, it sells 2K+ a month, and it has 9,640 ratings. The listing is short on detail: it doesn't say which batteries the truck and remote take, so check that before you wrap it and buy them now.

  • Scale1:24
  • Radio2.4GHz
  • Ages4+
  • MakerSpin Master

Why it stands out

  • Licensed truck young fans recognize on sight
  • Small and slow enough for indoors

Think twice if

  • The child is past 7 and wants something that goes outside on grass

Gift note for this band: the Zeee packs need a balance charger. This 80W 6A LiPo balance charger charges 1 to 6 cell LiPo packs, has a storage mode and plugs into the wall, and its box lists XT60, EC5 and banana leads. It doesn't list a T plug lead, so add the right adapter if you pair it with the Zeee packs.

The first real RC truck

Where proportional steering, four-wheel drive and real suspension start. The sweet spot for kids 8 to 13.

Best first hobby-grade truck for kids

HAIBOXING 18859

If we could put one truck under every tree, it would be this one. It has the parts that make hobby-grade worth it (ball bearings, a gear differential and independent suspension, plus a proportional 2.4GHz radio), and it still sits in the $50 to $150 band. Two LiPo packs come in the box, one already installed, and a USB charger. With 10,986 ratings and 1K+ sold last month, it's also the best-proven truck on this page.

HAIBOXING says spare parts are sold on Amazon, which matters: the first broken part at an 8-year-old's speeds gets fixed rather than thrown out. It's splash resistant, not something to drive through puddles.

  • Scale1:18
  • Motorbrushed 380
  • Top speed36 km/h (listing)
  • Drive4WD, ball bearings, gear diff
  • Batteries2 x 7.4V LiPo + USB charger
  • Rangeabout 280 ft
  • Ages8+

Why it stands out

  • Two batteries and a charger, so it runs Christmas morning
  • Replaceable parts sold on Amazon
  • Proportional throttle teaches real driving

Think twice if

  • The driver is a teen who wants brushless speed
  • You want a truck for snow and deep puddles

DEERC 9309E

Pick this over the HAIBOXING for a rougher driver. DEERC lists metal oil shocks, a metal differential, a metal driveshaft and a metal-gear servo, which are the parts that crack first on cheap trucks. The two 1200mAh batteries give up to 40 minutes of combined driving by DEERC's figure, and the ESC is rated IPX4 for splashes. It's #5 in Hobby RC Trucks with 1K+ sold last month.

  • Scale1/16
  • Motorbrushed 380
  • Top speed40 km/h (listing)
  • Drivetrainmetal diff, driveshaft and gear servo
  • Batteries2 x 1200mAh LiPo
  • ESCIPX4
  • ExtrasLED lights, wheelie bar

Why it stands out

  • Metal drivetrain parts where cheap trucks break
  • Two batteries in the box, plus LED lights

Think twice if

  • The 14,120 ratings appear to be shared across DEERC listing variants, so the count says less about this exact model
  • Amazon's listing puts the recommended age at 14, so check it fits the kid you're buying for

Most speed for the money

HYPER GO H16BM

The cheapest brushless truck here that people trust: 3,263 ratings and 400+ sold last month. Out of the box it runs on the included 2S pack at 27+ mph by HYPER GO's GPS figure. Later, a 3S pack pushes it past 42 mph without a new motor or speed control, so the gift gets faster next birthday. The 70% throttle switch on the radio is a smart touch for the first few runs.

It's a 1/16 truck, smaller than a Traxxas or Arrma 1/10, and parts support comes from HYPER GO rather than a hobby shop. Read our brushless vs brushed explainer if the difference is new to you.

  • Scale1/16
  • Motor2845 4200KV brushless
  • ESC45A, 2S/3S
  • Speed27+ mph on 2S, 42+ mph on 3S (listing)
  • Battery2S 7.4V 1050mAh LiPo
  • Radio3-ch with 70% throttle limit
  • Ages14+

Why it stands out

  • Brushless speed for a teen without a $300 bill
  • 3S-ready later, with a throttle limiter for now
  • Metal gears and diff, 16 ball bearings

Think twice if

  • The driver is under 12; the speed is too much

Best gift for a Traxxas owner

Traxxas EZ-Peak Plus 100W Dual Charger

Many Traxxas trucks, including the Maxx and TRX-4 on this page, ship without a charger. This charges two packs at once, and it reads Traxxas iD batteries and sets itself up, so there's nothing to program wrong. There's a one-button LiPo storage charge too, which keeps packs healthy between weekends. Advanced Mode and balance ports handle non-Traxxas LiPos as well.

  • Output100W
  • Ports2
  • Charges2S and 3S LiPo, 5 to 8 cell NiMH
  • Traxxas iDauto setup
  • Extrasstorage charge, cooling fan

Why it stands out

  • Two packs at once
  • iD auto setup is close to foolproof
  • 1,284 ratings, 100+ sold last month

Think twice if

  • Their packs are 4S or bigger; this tops out at 3S

Brand-name hobby grade

Trucks from the big hobby brands, with real parts support. Teens and adult beginners start here.

Best first brushless truck

Arrma Mojave GROM 223S BLX

The truck we'd give a 14-year-old who's been asking for "a real one." It's small enough to run in a backyard or a park, and it starts manageable: Spektrum's stability control and throttle limiting keep it pointed straight while the driver learns. Arrma rates it at 35+ mph on 2S and 50+ mph on 3S, so the same truck still feels fast a year from now. Arrma parts are easy to find, and that matters more than any spec once something breaks.

The box has no battery or charger. Plan on an IC2-plug LiPo and a balance charger, and buy them at the same time as the truck. Our Traxxas vs Arrma comparison explains why Arrma wins on toughness at this size.

  • PowerBLX brushless
  • Batteries2S or 3S (not included)
  • Speed35+ mph on 2S, 50+ mph on 3S (listing)
  • ElectronicsSpektrum DSC stability control, throttle limiting
  • Ages14+

Why it stands out

  • Grows from 2S to 3S speed
  • Stability control and throttle limit for new drivers
  • Arrma's parts support

Think twice if

  • You want everything in one box; add a battery and charger or pick the TRX-4M

Biggest truck for the money

RIAARIO 1/10 Brushless

Full 1/10 size and brushless power for less than the smaller Arrma, and 500+ people bought one last month, more than any other truck we found above $150. RIAARIO lists an aluminum chassis and CNC center diff, and a gyro that helps hold a line at speed. The four throttle settings mean a teen can start at 25% and earn the rest.

Two things to know. The listing's box contents are unclear about the battery and charger, so confirm what's included before you wrap it. And parts come from RIAARIO, not your local hobby shop.

  • Scale1/10
  • Motor3650 2650KV brushless, 60A ESC
  • Speed50+ mph (listing)
  • Steeringgyro, 11 kg metal-gear servo
  • Throttle modes0, 25, 70, 100%

Why it stands out

  • Big 1/10 truck with gyro and throttle limits
  • 743 ratings, strong sales right now

  • Long-term parts support matters to you; the Arrma is safer

Traxxas TRX-4M F-150 High Trail

A crawler is a different kind of fun: slow, careful climbing over rocks and couch cushions, and it works indoors in January. The TRX-4M's licensed F-150 body and lifted High Trail stance look great sitting on a shelf. The LiPo battery and charger come in the box with a full-size transmitter, so it's the brand-name truck in this band that runs on Christmas morning with nothing else to buy. Our mini crawler comparison covers how it stacks up.

Best desk-size crawler

Axial SCX24 Toyota 4Runner

The smallest hobby-grade truck here, and 200+ sold last month. A 1/24 crawler fits on a desk and crawls a bookshelf course on a winter night. Axial includes the LiPo and a USB-C charger, so it charges from a phone brick. It suits an adult who likes building scale scenes as much as a teen. Spare a thought for what comes after: SCX24 owners buy tires and upgrades for years, so next year's gift is easy.

The splurge

For the adult who already bashes, or the beginner you're sure will stick with it. None of these include a battery or charger.

The splurge

Traxxas Maxx 4S

If you only buy one big truck this Christmas, make it the Maxx. Traxxas builds it with a reinforced clipless body over an internal support cage, factory WideMaxx suspension for stability, and Traxxas Stability Management in the radio to help keep 4S power pointed straight. The listing also mentions it's self-righting. Traxxas parts are easy to find.

Budget for 4S LiPo power and a charger that handles it; the EZ-Peak dual above tops out at 3S. The adult RC guide compares the Maxx with Arrma's 6S trucks.

  • PowerVXL-4s ESC, 540XL brushless

  • Stability management for a 60+ mph truck
  • Easy parts from Traxxas

Best Arrma basher

Arrma Kraton 4S V2 BLX

The Arrma fan's version of the Maxx: a 4S speed monster truck that leans on toughness. This V2 adds an aluminum-cased center diff, a stronger metal-geared Spektrum servo and extra dirt protection on the chassis. For someone who already runs a GROM or a Granite, it's the natural next truck.

Wrap a pack of AA batteries with it; the transmitter takes four, and Arrma's listing says so.

Traxxas TRX-4 Ford Bronco

For the adult who likes trucks that look real, this is the crawler to give. Portal axles lift the diffs for ground clearance, and the four-channel transmitter locks the front and rear diffs and shifts between high and low range from your hand. It has the licensed Bronco body and a steel ladder frame. It's slow on purpose, and on a rocky trail it'll go places the bashers in this band can't.

Arrma Typhon 6S V5 BLX

The most-rated truck in this band (556 ratings). A 1/8 buggy runs low and corners fast where monster trucks bounce, and Arrma rates it at 70+ mph on 6S with an optional pinion that isn't in the box. It runs on 4S too, which is the saner place to start.

This is a gift for an experienced adult driver with space to run it. It's too fast for a backyard and too much for a first truck.

Christmas morning without the letdown

Most RC gift disappointments happen before the car moves. A few minutes in December prevents them.

  • Open the box before you wrap it and charge every battery. A LiPo shipped at storage charge needs a full charge, and the first one can take an hour or more on a small USB charger.
  • Check the plug. Batteries come with T, XT60, IC2, EC5 and Traxxas iD connectors, and they don't mix without an adapter. Look at the truck's plug before you buy a spare pack.
  • Buy the AA batteries now. Several transmitters take them, including the Arrma Kraton 4S's.
  • Get one spare battery for any hobby-grade truck. Ten or fifteen minutes of driving goes fast with a family watching.
  • Bind the remote and give it a test run in the garage, so the first problem isn't discovered at 7 a.m.

LiPo safety. Charge LiPo packs with a balance charger, on a non-flammable surface or in a LiPo bag, and with an adult nearby the whole time. Stop using any pack that swells or gets hot. Store packs at storage voltage, not full. Our LiPo charging guide walks through it step by step, and LiPo vs NiMH explains why some kids' cars use the simpler battery.

If you only buy one

Tom's call, if you only buy one: for a kid between 8 and 12, buy the HAIBOXING 18859. It's the gift on this page most likely to be running by breakfast and still running in March: it comes with batteries and a charger, and spare parts are a click away. For a teen or an adult starting the hobby, spend more and get the Arrma Mojave GROM with a 2S pack and a balance charger, because a brand-name truck with parts support is the one that lasts. Shopping for someone already hooked? A second battery that matches their plug beats a gadget every time.

Questions people ask

What is a good RC car to give a 10-year-old for Christmas?
The HAIBOXING 18859 is the safest bet. It's a 1:18 4WD truck with real proportional steering and throttle, two batteries and a USB charger in the box, and it has more than 10,000 Amazon ratings. Kids under 8 do better with a toy-grade car like the QUNREDA stunt car, which is simpler and much harder to break.
Do RC cars come with batteries and a charger?
It depends on the model, and it's the most common Christmas-morning surprise. The toy-grade picks here and the HAIBOXING, DEERC, HYPER GO, Axial SCX24 and Traxxas TRX-4M listings include a battery and charger. The Arrma Mojave GROM, Traxxas Maxx, TRX-4 Bronco, Arrma Kraton 4S and Typhon 6S do not, so budget for a LiPo pack and a balance charger.
What's the difference between a toy-grade and a hobby-grade RC car?
A toy-grade car is sold as one piece: when something breaks, it's usually done. A hobby-grade car has proportional controls, replaceable parts and upgrade paths, and brands like Traxxas and Arrma sell every part separately. Hobby-grade also goes much faster, which is why most of those listings say 14 and up.
Is a LiPo battery safe for a child's RC car?
LiPo packs are safe when an adult handles charging. Use a balance charger, charge on a non-flammable surface or inside a LiPo bag, never leave a pack charging unattended, and stop using any pack that swells. For younger kids, cars with small USB-charged packs keep the routine simple.
When should I buy RC car Christmas gifts?
Earlier than you'd think. Popular RC trucks and their batteries sell out by color and connector type in December, and prices move around Black Friday. Buy the car first, then the battery and charger that match its plug, and leave time to charge and test everything before you wrap it.
What do you buy someone who already has an RC car?
Spend on what keeps the car running: a second battery with the right connector, a better balance charger, a LiPo bag, or a set of good hex drivers. Check which plug and cell count their truck uses before you order anything with a battery in it.
