The best RC car battery for your truck

The right battery is the one that fits your tray, plugs into your ESC and matches what your speed control is rated for. Here are the best packs for each case, from Amazon's best sellers.

How we pick Updated · We earn a commission when you buy through our Amazon links.

Match the pack to your truck, not the other way around. For a typical 1/10 basher on 2S, the Zeee 2S 5200 mAh hard case (in XT60, EC5 or Deans versions) is the best-selling, best-value choice; for Traxxas trucks, HOOVO's 2S 6200 mAh with a Traxxas plug is the popular aftermarket option. Going 3S, the Zeee 3S 5200 mAh EC5 suits Arrma's 223S trucks. For SCX24-size crawlers there are tiny 2S packs, and for kids' and brushed cars, NiMH from Traxxas or Tenergy is simpler and more forgiving.

How we picked these batteries

We pulled Amazon's best-selling RC batteries on October 3, 2026, and chose packs by:

  • Sales and ratings: Zeee's 2S 5200 mAh Deans pack showed 800+ purchases last month with 4,500+ ratings; Zeee's 3S 2200 mAh shorty, 1,000+.
  • Published specs: every dimension, weight and rating below comes from the battery maker's listing, so you can check fit.
  • Connector coverage: a good pick for each common plug, so you rarely need adapters.

This is a How we pick page based on listings and owner feedback. We didn't cycle-test these packs. How we research.

The three checks before you buy any battery

Three battery compatibility checks Three boxes: voltage must be within the ESC rating, dimensions must fit the battery tray, and the connector must match the ESC. All three must pass. VoltageSizeConnector 2S / 3S withinyour ESC rating length × width ×height fits the tray matches the ESC(or a proper adapter) All three must match
Battery makers say the same thing in their listings: only if the voltage, dimensions and plug match will it fit.

HOOVO's Traxxas-plug 2S is a popular way to add runtime to a Bandit, Rustler or similar 2S Traxxas without buying genuine iD packs. Read HOOVO's own notice: the plug is an older version that may not work with a Traxxas iD charger, so use a regular LiPo balance charger.

  • Voltage7.4V 2S1P
  • Capacity6200 mAh
  • Discharge70C
  • PlugTraxxas-style
  • Size139 × 47 × 25 mm

Battery buying guide

Voltage: only what your ESC is rated for

More cells means more speed, and more stress on the ESC, motor and driveline. Check your truck's manual: the Arrma 223S trucks are sold as 2S/3S capable; many brushed ESCs are 2S or NiMH only.

Capacity and C rating

More mAh means longer runtime but more weight. Discharge (C) ratings aren't standardized across brands, so buy from makers with a strong rating history and match the pack to your system rather than chasing the biggest number.

Hard case

For bashers, hard-case packs protect the cells in crashes. Most of the 1/10 packs above are hard-case; check each listing.

Charger and safety

LiPo needs a balance charger set to the right cell count (see the best LiPo charger for beginners). Follow manufacturer rules: never charge unattended, charge in a fire-resistant container or LiPo bag on a non-flammable surface, turn on low-voltage cutoff, store at storage voltage, and retire any pack that swells (Traxxas Battery Basics, Spektrum lithium battery safety). The Zeee LiPo safe bag covers the container rule.

The bottom line

For most 2S trucks, buy the Zeee 2S 5200 mAh in the plug your ESC uses. For Traxxas, the HOOVO 2S 6200 Traxxas-plug (with a regular balance charger) or genuine iD packs. For 3S, the Zeee 3S 5200 EC5 or the low-profile HOOVO 3S 5200. And for kids' cars, keep it simple with NiMH.

Questions people ask

What is the best battery for an RC car?
The best battery is the one your truck is designed for. For most 1/10 bashers that's a 2S or 3S LiPo hard-case pack with the right connector, such as Zeee's 5200 mAh packs (XT60, EC5 or Deans) or HOOVO's packs with a Traxxas plug. For simple, kid-friendly cars, NiMH packs like Traxxas's 2923X or Tenergy's 7.2V are easier to live with.
What do 2S, 3S, mAh and C rating mean?
2S and 3S are the number of LiPo cells in series (7.4V and 11.1V nominal). mAh is capacity: more mAh generally means longer runtime, but a bigger, heavier pack. The C rating is the maker's discharge rating; buy from a reputable brand and match the pack to what your ESC is rated for rather than chasing the highest C number.
Can I use any battery in my RC car?
Only if three things match: voltage (your ESC must be rated for it), physical size (it must fit the tray), and connector (or a proper adapter). Battery listings like Zeee's say it plainly: only if the voltage, dimensions and plug match will it fit.
Do aftermarket batteries work with Traxxas iD chargers?
Not always. HOOVO's listing for its Traxxas-plug packs notes the plug is an older version that may not be compatible with the Traxxas charger, and recommends a regular LiPo balance charger. Genuine Traxxas iD packs are recognized automatically by iD chargers.
How long do RC LiPo batteries last?
It depends on how they're charged, discharged and stored. HOOVO's listing quotes at least 150 cycles for its packs. Following the rules (balance charging, not over-discharging, storage charge when idle, avoiding heat) helps any pack last longer.
How should I store RC batteries?
LiPo: partially charged using your charger's storage mode (about 3.8V per cell per Horizon Hobby), in a fire-resistant container, between 40 and 120°F, never in a car. NiMH: no storage charge is needed, per Traxxas, but top it up before running.
